“May God, Who Began a Good Work in You, Bring It to Fulfillment”

This weekend, the Diocese of Cleveland celebrates the ordination of Deacon Michael Garvin, who will become Fr. Michael Garvin.  At the ordination, Bishop Malesic will pray these words “May God, who began a good work in you, bring it to fulfillment.”  I have to confess, at every ordination, I love hearing these words.  It is a great reminder that God is at work in our lives—that God began a good work in you at the day of your baptism and He will not leave you as an orphan.  He will send His Holy Spirit to sanctify your life and bring your vocation to fulfillment.  On this Pentecost weekend, pray with these words from Pope Francis: “The Holy Spirit is the soul of the Church. He gives life, He brings forth different charisms which enrich the people of God and, above all, He creates unity among believers: from the many He makes one body, the Body of Christ. The Church’s whole life and mission depend on the Holy Spirit; He fulfills all things.”  Come Holy Spirit!  Fulfill what You have begun in us!

Special Thanks!  Thanks to TSI Painting for their good work in rejuvenating the church pews.  They are looking marvelous!  Also, another thank you to Ryan Carpet as they have been installing the carpet in the church.  Once carpeting is finished, Henninger’s will install the new kneelers.  It will be delightful to worship in this renewed space!

Tuesday Evening Mass.  In April, Fr. Sal called to tell me that he would no longer be able to help with Thursday evening Masses or Confessions here at the parish as he is now the Director of Spiritual Care at the Village of St. Edward.  The Church permits priests to pray one Mass per day unless there are special circumstances, so not having Fr. Sal’s help meant that we would have to adjust our daily Mass schedule.  I asked Fr. David to perform a study of what weekday evening Masses are being offered in the area.  We wanted to make sure that when we made a change to our Mass schedule there would still be an opportunity to attend evening Mass somewhere in the area every day of the week.

Monday, 5:30 p.m. – Immaculate Conception, Kenmore

Tuesday, 5:15 p.m. – St. Augustine, Barberton

Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m. – SS. Peter and Paul, Doylestown

Thursday, 6:30 p.m. – here, with Confessions at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, 5:30 p.m. – St. Paul, Akron

Fr. David found that our parish is the only one locally to offer Thursday evening Mass and Confessions. In order to follow the Church’s Mass regulations but keep our Thursday evening Mass, we will discontinue the 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening Mass beginning in June.  If you have requested an intention for a 6:30 Tuesday Mass, the parish office will contact you soon to reschedule the intention. We hope that this adjustment to our Mass schedule will help us continue to meet the needs of our parish and the wider community. To make this possible, Fr. David and I are also going to change our days off. My day off will be Tuesday and Fr. David’s will be Wednesday starting in June.  Thank you for your patience as we navigate these waters!

Come Holy Spirit!
Fr. Jeremy
