Have You Ever Been Confirmed?

Have You Ever Been Confirmed?

“I will make of you a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
so that you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you
and curse those who curse you.”

I will make...I will bless...I will make...I will bless... These words spoken to Abram by God speak of anticipation of what God wants to do in his life. These words should give us hope because God not only wanted to do things in the life of Abram, but wants to do things in your life. He wants to make your life a blessing for others. Sometimes we just need to give Him permission to do it.

One way that God acts and moves in our spiritual lives is through the sacramental life. By our very reception of the sacraments, we are saying to God, “I need You. I want You in my life. I want You to walk with me, lift me up, sustain me and help me in all I do.” In the Sacrament of Confirmation, we are “sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit” and strengthened for service to the Body of Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are given what we need to be a blessing for others.

From the US Catechism for Adults: “Confirmation deepens our baptismal life that calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society, and the world. We receive the message of faith in a deeper and more intensive manner with great emphasis given to the person of Jesus Christ, who asked the Father to give the Holy Spirit to the Church for building up the community in loving service.”

If you have never received the Sacrament of Confirmation, it is never too late. On March 12, we are offering a day of preparation for adults who desire to receive the sacrament. Please contact Kathy Ott at the parish office for more information. If you cannot make the date, contact us, nonetheless, and we will help you on your journey. Don’t let yourself be fooled. We need the Lord. Approach the Lord, receive Him and He will make your life a blessing for others.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and kindle in them the fire of Your love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth.

Come Holy Spirit,

Fr. Jeremy
