Marriage

Marriage: A Sacrament and A Vocation

“This is a great mystery, but I speak in reference to Christ and the church. In any case, each one of you should love his wife as himself, and the wife should respect her husband” (Ephesians 5:32-33).

Sexuality is a beautiful gift from God the Father. The vocation of marriage displays the supreme dignity of the body and sexuality in a unique and beautiful way. The vocation of marriage is not a “lesser” vocation when compared to priesthood or religious life. Rather, marriage is the very key that unlocks the depths of the other vocations in the Kingdom of God (Ephesians 5:32-33). Marriage between one man and one woman makes visible the invisible reality of Jesus’s spousal love for his Bride, the Church. Matrimony is the first sacrament God created when humanity was formed. It is through families that God blessed the nations with faith. What an awesome gift this vocation is for the life of the Church!.

“Marriage is an act of will that signifies and involves a mutual gift, which unites the spouses and binds them to their eventual souls, with whom they make up a sole family – a domestic church.” — Pope Saint John Paul II
